Summer Camp 2014 at their home on 700 North Calvert Street.
Summer Camp and Snow Camp
Summer Camp and Snow Camp are week-long annual intensive programs, hosted by the Strand Theater Company, that focus on cultivating and enriching the artistic practice of directing new work. Will Davis and Michael Rau lead the all activities, building on their successful intensive as part of the NNPN/Kennedy Center’s MFA Playwrights’ Workshop during the summer of 2013.
Read Making Room for the New Work Director to hear why Will Davis believes we need more training and experimentation opportunities for directors.
Read A Week of Theater Director Training to hear Michael Rau’s reflections on the intensive he led with Will at the Kennedy Center this past summer.
Read Snow Camp Roundup to hear Michael Rau's thoughts on our initial directing intensive at the Strand this past December.
Campers
Theatre professionals, as well as undergraduate and graduate students, are encouraged to apply. Applicants need not be directors, but they must be interested in exploring the role of the director. Campers will engage in a rigorous conversation about the role of the director in the new work landscape, workshop their craft in a collaborative setting with fellow directors, and observe each other in rehearsal.
