Strand Theater Company – Artistic Director
Introduction:
The Strand Theater Company, a Baltimore based community theater with a mission of supporting and amplifying women’s voices on stage and off, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Artistic Director.
Job Description:
The Artistic Director is responsible for conceiving, developing, and implementing the artistic vision and focus of the Strand Theater Company, promoting the mission to the greater community and providing high-quality theater programming and community engagement. The Artistic Director reports to the Executive Director.

Compensation:
The Artistic Director will receive an annual stipend in the amount of $2000, paid out in four $500 installments throughout the Season. The Artistic Director is expected to dedicate an average of 15 hours a week to the position.

Job Description:
The Artistic Director is responsible for conceiving, developing, and implementing the artistic vision and focus of the Strand Theater Company, promoting the mission to the greater community and providing high-quality theater programming and community engagement. The Artistic Director reports to the Executive Director.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Artistic Supervision
- Develops, implements, and evaluates artistic programs and arts-related partnerships. Artistic programs and arts-related partnerships must complement the mission of the theater and maintain the quality of production values for all Strand productions.
- In consultation with Executive Director, curates the annual production Season.
- Directs at least one production per Season.
- Develops and manages a consistent and thoughtful process for accepting and evaluating scripts submitted to the Strand.
- Works with the Executive Director on developing an annual budget for artistic programming, to be presented for approval by the Strand Board of Directors.
- In consultation with the Executive Director, engages services of production artistic and technical personnel and partners, including directors, designers, and stage managers.
- Oversees auditions, casting, rehearsals, and provides guidance to production directors.
- Manages production calendar and attends key events: (first rehearsal, design run, all technical and dress rehearsals, opening nights)
Community Engagement
- Maintains a presence and/or residence in Baltimore or the region that enables full participation in Strand Theater activities in accordance with all primary duties described herein.
- Acts as a spokesperson for the organization's artistic purpose via speaking engagements, public and social appearances, and, as requested, at fundraising events and solicitations.
- Fosters the development of good relations with other cultural organizations by participating in meetings and joint activities where appropriate.
Board Relations
- Reports to the Board of Directors on a regular basis to give an update on artistic activity.
- Assists the Executive Director in developing operating policies and procedures for the Strand
Compensation:

Qualifications:
- Education in a relevant field such as theater, arts, or arts administration. Formal education may be substituted with relevant experience in the field.
- Experience working in the arts or theatre industry, preferably in a leading role in a non-profit or community-based setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations, including volunteers, staff, and community partners.
- Creative and innovative mindset with a passion for promoting women-centric theater programming.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing needs and priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to lead and collaborate effectively with diverse teams of artists, technicians, and volunteers.
