BROWN SUGAR BAKE-OFF FESTIVAL 2024
THE RECIPE (aka the rules)
Playwrights must identify as Black women or non-binary.
Submissions are due at 11:59 pm on Monday, August 12. Play submissions should be made via Google Form (https://forms.gle/YoJBtzwHENT6GWmF8). as a Microsoft Word or PDF file, and will then be reviewed by a team of readers. All plays must be blind submissions, which means that the playwright’s name and any identifying information must be removed from the manuscript in its entirety. This includes the title page, and all headers and footers throughout the text of the play.
Playwrights’ names will be associated with their application submitted with their manuscript via Google Forms.
For BSBO, a ten-minute play is ten (10) pages or fewer (in 12 point typeface, not including character information or title page). Please note that the maximum limit is ten pages – do NOT send us any more than ten pages on the assumption that the runtime will be under ten minutes.
Plays must have at least two characters, and flexible casts (with relatively more female and non-binary roles) are encouraged. We encourage a maximum of 5 speaking roles.
Plays should not have been previously produced and/or published.

BSBO Live Performances at The Strand: October 18-October 27, Friday and Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 2pm
Industry Night: Wednesday, October 23 at 8pm
Post-show BSBO Panel with Playwrights, Cast, and Crew: Sunday, October 27
