Internship Program
The Program
The Strand Theater is re-launching its internship program for the 2013-2014 season. The program aims to provide students with valuable mentorship and training, bridging the gap between academic education and practice. Interns will gain insight, knowledge, and hands-on experience in all aspects of the theater. This is a unique opportunity for individuals to gain practical experience in one of Baltimore's Top 5 Theatres (Baltimore magazine, August 2011).
Internship Positions
Production Intern
Working closely with the production directors, the Production Intern will gain knowledge and experience in production administration. Small projects, specific to each production, may be assigned to the intern. Responsibilities include general office duties, research for props and scenery, providing rehearsal support, and assisting with budgeting. Production interns will often be called upon to assist in all areas of production, including stage management and props.
Box Office Intern
The Box Office Intern is involved in all aspects of artist- and audience-relations. The intern will gain practical experience in the operations of a box office through assisting the staff in the sale and processing of subscription and individual ticket orders. Interns will also assist with the front-of-house, event planning, and building operations. The Box Office Intern should be outgoing, a creative problem-solver, and able to work well with a diverse group of people.
Development and Marketing Intern
The Development and Marketing Intern works on all aspects of fundraising for the Theater. The intern will help develop a long-term marketing and audience development strategy. Responsibilities may include research on corporate, foundation, and individual prospects, assistance with special events, and planning and execution of individual and group ticket sales initiatives. The intern will also assist with the maintenance of general donor correspondence and fundraising records.
Requirements
Interns must commit to an entire season at the Strand (early-September to mid-June). Specific hours will be determined by the Strand staff and the intern upon acceptance into the program. Interns must be enrolled in a Maryland college or university during the internship period. Internships are not open to high school students.
Academic Credit
This is a non-paid internship. Students can receive academic credit. The Strand will work with the intern to meet his or her school's credit requirements.
Evaluation
Interns are evaluated at the end of their fall semester (December) and again at the end of the internship (May).
